All The Robots We've made
Vroomy was named by Isabel when she was the closest one to predicting the 2024 competition game. It was the second robot we made for competition. The main thing that made this robot stand out was the fact that it was the first robot we made that had swerve drive.
The robot was designed to shoot from far away so that our alliance members who needed to be closer to the speaker would have plenty of room. We called this the "spicy robot design" because of how unexpected it would have been.
After much debate and votes, we decided to get to work. Throughout the making of Vroomy, we took it apart and put it back together again. Through many trials and tribulations, we had a robot that was functional and had little to no issues.
After a lot of work and practice over Spring Break, our team went to the 2024 Iowa Regionals.
Stewie was the first completed robot that we took to competition. We used the Everybot design created by team 118, Robonauts, to make Stewie. We tweaked some design elements to make it more stable and we made, in full, our own programming. We took Stewie to our first competition at the Iowa Regionals 2023 and individually ranked 6th out of 56 teams. After selecting our alliance, our alliance placed 3rd . We also won two rookie awards; the Rookie All-Star award and the Rookie Highest Seed award. Though we had difficulties in its creation, Stewie came out amazing.
WHO13 TV interview with Tower Robotics team before heading to the World competition.
Our very first robot, named Robusta, brought forth a lot of challenges. In our very first practice, we spent 3 hours making just the wheels. To say we have made vast improvement since then is an understatement. We were all inexperienced and anxious during the first couple of meetings. But as time went on and we started to grasp the situation, we made immense progress. It took a month to build and code our first robot. By the time we went on winter break, we had completed our first robot and were prepared to build our competition robot. We used the ‘Every-bot’ Design made by Team #118. Half of us would go to the shop and build while the other half would go to the maker space room to code and discuss strategy.
